Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or case number entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be kept long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may automatically receive technical details about the visit:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure which pages are used and where visits end. Analytics providers may combine that activity into general traffic reports. Browser controls can block cookies, though doing so may change how parts of the site work.
What We Do With This Data
- Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
- Sending your search requests to the right partner service
- Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
- Tracking down and fixing technical issues
- Showing ads that may line up with your interests
No Court-Record Data on File
Morgan County Court Docket does not host, compile, maintain, or sell a database of case records or personal docket information. It provides directions to the Morgan County Circuit Clerk, Magistrate Court Clerk, Circuit Court, and official West Virginia search systems. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the embedded search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices, so review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to clerk pages, WVPASS, MCRSearch, legal resources, or outside search tools. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy terms apply. Check them before providing personal data.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. We do not operate that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Some information may end up with:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Standard safeguards are used for information under our control. No internet service can promise perfect security, so a breach or unauthorized access cannot be ruled out.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, a deletion request may be made.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide additional rights. West Virginia Code § 29B-1-3 governs access to public records held by public bodies, but it does not turn this private site into a government records custodian. For data held directly by us, you may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. A new version becomes available here with its updated effective date, so visitors should review it from time to time.
